A 19th century English oil-on-canvas of a hunting dog with prey in a country landscape by W.J. Gilbert of Suffolk, England. SIgned. Mr. Gilbert is a listed artist of British sport, hunt and equestrian subjects. He is listed in the Dictionary of British Equestrian Artists and in Davenport's Art Reference. The painting is enhanced by a carved wood gilt frame and would be a lovely addition to a collection of dog paintings, a gentleman's study, library, den, etc. Overall dimensions are below.
