F. C. Kiærschou, “En sommerdag ved Sorgenfri” "A summerday by Sorgenfri", Denmark, Signed CK. A Summer Day is a superb landscape in the manner of the Danish Golden Age of Light artists. This painting is by Frederick Christian Kiærskou who was born in Copenhagen in 1805. From a young age he studied at the Danish Royal Academy of Art and was also a member of the Swedish Academy of Art. The serenity of the painting is captured on both sides where a towering tree stands guard. The exquisitely executed light that radiates from the center of the painting highlights the reflection in the lake. The perfect blue of a summer day sky and the clouds which appear to be almost moving draw the viewer to the center of the painting. There in the forefront of the painting glides a regal swan that seems to move toward the viewer and leans a tranquillity and serene grace to the painting. The Danish Golden Age of Light signifies a period of fifty years from the beginning of the 19th century that ushered in a time of exceptional creativity. Kiaerschou was a follower of the master artists and has rendered in A Summer Day a painting to be treasured and sought after by connisuers of Fine Art.
