Signed in the lower right corner. Very good condition. German Grobe was the son of the merchant Johannes Grobe and his wife Amalie, born Eberhard. After receiving his first lessons with Georg Cornicelius in his hometown, he attended the Städel Art Institute in Frankfurt am Main from 1873-1876, where he was a student of Eduard von Steinle.
