French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Watercolor Painting in Its Original Frame

About the Item

A beautiful small scale French 19th century Louis XVI st. watercolor painting in its original ormolu frame. The painting titled Triomphe de Bacchus (Triumph of Bacchus) depicts wonderfully executed personages celebrating with a beautiful maiden in a flowing white gown and a handsome gentleman holding a cornucopia and draped in a red cloak riding in a chariot pulled by a lion with a delightful winged cherub pulling the reins. A lioness is walking by their side with a charming young boy draped in grape vines and grape leaves playing a flute and a flying winged cherub leading the way carrying a basket of grapes above his head. A lady is laying eating grapes with a satyr in the foreground and additional beautiful personages in the background. Set within its original beautiful ormolu mottled frame with lovely palmette, fluted, Coeur de Rai, beaded and twisted rope designs, and a striking pierced top plaque centered by a mask of Bacchus flanked by cornucopias and lovely blooming flowers.
