About the Item
French, early-to-mid 20th century abstracted oil on canvas landscape by Henri Descamps (1898-1990). The hazy technique emphasizes the bright color palette and impasto texture of the trees along a riverbank, mounds of hay on the embankment to the lower right of the image might suggest a time period of late summer when the long rays of the sun cast a golden glow in the waning hours of the late afternoon. Signed by the artist in the bottom right corner, and dedicated to Madame Gernon, “respectueux hommage” (in tribute). Set within a simple wood frame of mottled ivory color and textured patina.
