French Neoclassical Oil Painting
About the Item
Oil painting from the 1800s; exact year is unknown. This would have been during the Neoclassical period in France; you can tell by the clothes they are wearing and their surroundings. During this time there was cultural movement in the decorative and visual arts, literature, theatre, music, and architecture that drew inspiration from the art and culture of classical antiquity. This was shown through all forms of art, especially in paintings. The painting depicts two (2) women enjoying a boat ride, while a man is in control of the boat. It appears they are off to enjoy a picnic together on a beautiful day. Some restorations have been made to bring the painting closer to its original form; there are still signs of aging, but that is apart of its beauty. It is oil paint on a hand stretched canvas. Can be sold as is, or there is a framing option.
