Georges Braque Framed 'Paysage à l'Estaque' Color Lithography, circa 1906

About the Item

Step into the enchanting world of Georges Braque with the original 'Paysage à l'Estaque' color lithograph, a masterpiece painted in France circa 1906. This lithograph, edited and printed in France in the 1970s, captures the essence of Braque's artistic brilliance and is a testament to his significant contributions to Fauvism and the development of Cubism. Framed to perfection and signed in the stone, this lithograph is not just a piece of art; it's a window into the mind of a major 20th-century French painter. Georges Braque's work between 1908 and 1912 is closely associated with that of his colleague Pablo Picasso, and this piece reflects the indistinguishable nature of their Cubist works during that period. Georges Braque, born in 1882 and passing away in 1963, left an indelible mark on the art world. Despite the quiet nature of Braque, his contributions were substantial, and this lithograph is a testament to the enduring legacy of a master artist. In good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, the lithograph preserves a beautiful patina that adds character to this timeless composition. As you immerse yourself in the 'Paysage à l'Estaque,' you're not just appreciating art; you're connecting with the spirit of Georges Braque, a visionary whose influence continues to resonate in the world of art and beyond. Please note that the frame in the photos is just an example, and the artwork will be framed for the buyer with a very similar frame once they purchase the artwork. The chosen frame will complement the lithograph, ensuring a cohesive and visually appealing presentation that enhances the overall aesthetic of this captivating piece by Georges Braque.

  • André Derain Framed 'Paysage à l'Estaque' Color Lithography, circa 1972
    By André Derain
    Located in Barcelona, Barcelona
Original 'Hyde Park' color lithograph by André Derain. Lithograph printed from an original painting made by the author in France in 1906. Published by Fernand Mourlot in Les Fauves. Paris, circa 1972. Framed and signed in the stone. Frame will be slightly different from the one on the photos, each piece will be framed once it sells, this is an exhibition frame. In good original condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. About the Artist: André Derain (10 June 1880 – 8 September 1954) was a French artist, painter, sculptor and co-founder of Fauvism with Henri Matisse. Derain and Matisse worked together through the summer of 1905 in the Mediterranean village of Collioure and later that year displayed their highly innovative paintings at the Salon d'Automne. The vivid, unnatural colors led the critic Louis Vauxcelles to derisively dub their works as les Fauves, or "the wild beasts", marking the start of the Fauvist movement. In March 1906, the noted art dealer Ambroise Vollard sent Derain to London to produce a series of paintings with the city as subject. In 30 paintings (29 of which are still extant), Derain presented a portrait of London that was radically different from anything done by previous painters of the city such as Whistler or Monet. With bold colors and compositions, Derain painted multiple pictures of the Thames and Tower Bridge. These London paintings remain among his most popular work. Art critic T. G Rosenthal: "Not since Monet has anyone made London seem so fresh and yet remain quintessentially English. Some of his views of the Thames use the Pointillist technique of multiple dots, although by this time, because the dots have become much larger, it is rather more simply the separation of colours called Divisionism and it is peculiarly effective in conveying the fragmentation of colour in moving water in sunlight." He experimented with stone sculpture and moved to Montmartre to be near his friend Pablo Picasso and other noted artists. Fernande Olivier...
