About the Item

Very fine hand-painted Biedermeier Portrait of a lovely young lady situated in romantic landscape. Ivory plate, painted in mixed technique. Nice brass frame topped by sculptured loops / additionally, the picture is covered with yellow-golden brocade at backside. Described as: 'Harmois' which is most probably lady's (French) surname. Painted during Biedermeier Period (Austria), dated 1841. Signed: 'Agricola p. 1841' Carl Josef Alois Agricola (born in Waldstadt-Säckingen, Germany 1779 – died in year 1852 in Vienna / Austria) .- Agricola was specialized in painting miniatures as well as he was a copperplate engraver. The painter had been pupil of Friedrich Heinrich Füger, Hubert Maurer and Franz Caspar Sambach. Having studied at Academy of Karlsruhe (Germany) first, Agricola moved in later period to Vienna where he was pupil at Viennese Academy as from the year 1793. Finally, he became member of Academy in year 1836. Agricola worked as painter in Vienna until his death in year 1852. His works en miniatures were highly esteemed in Viennese society. Portrait of highest quality: Painted on ivory and encased in brass frame / the picture is covered with glass. This painted Biedermeier lifelike portrait on ivory shows a young lady taking a rest on earth. She is surrounded by excellently painted romantic landscape showing a village in background. The lady is clad in antique garments which are stunningly welting her elegant appearance. By the way, the lady is busy with making a wreath of flowers / various flowers' blossoms have been laid on earth, too.
