Hand-painted Portrait en miniature (thumbnail) of two lovely children, Victorian Period. UK, painted, circa 1860-1870. Portrait peinte aimable à la main des deux enfants (garçon et fille), Victorien Période / Ère. Royaume-Uni, peinture en miniature / faite environ 1860-1870. Portrait of highest quality: Painted on ivory and encased in elegant leather case which can be closed by hinge with hook and eye: Additionally, case is equipped with velvet inside / the picture is additionally framed by passepartout and protected by glass. This painted Victorian lifelike portrait on ivory shows a lovely pair of children posing in front of a column. Girl and boy are clad in children's garments of Victorian Period (the children are shown en face) / additionally, a parapet decorated with flowers is visible on picture's right side, the little bright-haired boy is reaching some of these flowers. Style: Style of this picture is strongly influenced by some paintings of children made by well-known British portrait painter William Beechey (1753-1839), for example the picture: 'The Children of Paul Sandby' - today at Museum and Art Gallery of Nottingham Castle. Contrastingly to this, style of picture presented here is most severe: The lines are clearcut / general painting's style of Beechey's picture is of more effortlessness as well as of more 'impressionism' (concerning the 'smooth' strokes of the brush). - Nevertheless, it is a portrait en miniature of excellent quality as well as of most lovely impression.
