Meissen Splendour Centerpiece with Dancing Gardener Children Kaendler circa 1860

About the Item

Four gardener children, two girls and two boys, dancing hand in hand in a circle around a palm-like plant, on the crown of which rests a breakthrough bowl, the figures are wearing elaborate rococo rural style clothing, which is equipped with the finest decorations, the bowl is decorated in the center with finely painted fruit decor - peach, plums, red grapes and blueberries, as well as forget-me-nots - the rim is decorated with an intertwined breakthrough decor with gold shading and edges. The group is based on round natural base with plastic flowers and leaves, and side frieze decoration heightened with gold. This design also exists in a version with a tree or without a centerpiece. Designed by JOHANN JOACHIM KAENDLER (1706 - 1775): chief sculptor at the Meissen manufactory from 1742 to 1775. He is the most famous modeller Meissen manufactory ever had and created famous series such as Shepherd Figurines, Comedian's Children, Gardener Children (with Acier), Paris Town Criers (with Reinicke and Meyer) , Gallant Figurines, etc. Kaendler designed this model circa 1760.
