About the Item
Giovanni Francesco Briglia nacque a Roma nella seconda metà degli anni Trenta del Settecento (1737 o 1739) ,fu allievo di Francesco Mancini e si trasferì assai giovane a Firenze.
Il dipinto qui proposto raffigura uno spazio chiuso, forse l’interno di una dispensa, dove è stata appoggiata a terra e appesa al muro della selvaggina di penna, mentre un gatto si affaccia da un’inferriata sul fondo.
La resa levigata delle superfici e il marcato chiaroscuro palesano l’attenzione del Briglia per gli specialisti fiamminghi attivi a Roma nel secolo precedente, in particolare per Johannes Hermans detto Monsù Aurora, mentre la scelta di un repertorio rustico, in cui prevalgono gli interni di cucina o di dispensa, rientra in una tendenza che caratterizza parte della natura morta italiana settecentesca e che troverà altri interpreti in Tommaso Realfonso, Giacomo Nani, Carlo Magini e Nicola Levoli.
