Large Modernist Impressionist Oil Painting Seascape Village, 1950's Italy
A very restful large Mid-20th Century Mediterranean seascape composition, painted in oil. Seemingly simple and relaxed scene yet very effective in composition. Several boats are depicted onshore as well as a sailboat in a sea of still water. Sweeping brushstrokes imbue the work with a soothing quality, and the use of soft muted hues of blue used to paint the sky and sea adds a strong sense of calm. This oil on canvas is beautifully presented in a complementary hand-carved wood and distressed frame.
