About the Item
Louis Emile Adan:
A leading nineteenth century and early twentieth century painter and illustrator, Louis Emile Adan studied under Cabanel and Picot at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He exhibited his art annually at both the Paris Salons and with the Societe des Aquarellistes Francais from 1863 to 1937. Adan received medals from these institutions in 1875, 1882, 1889 and 1900. He was also awarded the Chevalier of the Legion d'honneur in 1892 and the Prix Bonnat in 1931. Adan’s illustrated books include Fables de La Fontaine and Un coeur simple. Public museums in Paris, Lyon, Rouen and Saint-Etienne include examples of his original art in their permanent collections.
