A grand and atmospheric 19th-century English School oil on canvas depicting a traditional fox hunt gathering — known as “The Meet.” The richly detailed composition captures a moment of pause before the chase: a pack of hounds rests in the foreground while huntsmen in scarlet coats confer under tall trees, with riders and horses assembling in the distance.
Executed with confident brushwork and a subtle, naturalistic palette, the painting evokes the sporting traditions and social pageantry of the late Victorian and Edwardian countryside. The artist’s attention to light filtering through the trees and the varied poses of the hounds lend the scene depth and movement.
