About the Item

A vintage American Outsider Art style abstract painting on cardboard. The work, in my humble opinion, has strong ties to Wassily Kandinsky in its composition. This work is unsigned. It is framed. And with that rather short description, I find myself digging deeper into an understanding of modern abstract art. To do so, the obvious choice was to research Mr. Kandinsky for his opinions. One is, "Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colors, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential." If we are to assume that Kandinsky is correct (and who are any of us to doubt his genius?) shall we try to 'read' this painting? I'll go first. I see paths crossing and peoples coming together. Their flags flying and their beliefs converging. I see growth through the combination of earlier disparate systems. And what do you see? But, if you’re looking for perfect, I rarely if ever have that. Because I’m selling something with bumps and bruises, chips and cracks, spots and stains. Well maybe this particular piece doesn’t tick every box, but I believe that forewarned is forearmed. So if you’re still reading, get ready for something truly special. A piece that flies in the face of today’s overwhelmingly sanitized and homogenized homes. A piece with something sorely missing from today’s interiors, character. The finish on the painting, perhaps a varnish, looks to be providing a protective barrier to the surface. Let's remember, that this is on cardboard and I have not had this piece professionally cleaned. This painting will certainly evoke countless discussions, thoughts, feelings, emotions from the viewers - you included. Are you ready?.
