About the Item

Grand et beau tableau, huile sur toile, représentant " L'adoration des Bergers " Ce tableau est une œuvre réalisée au début du XIXème siècle par un peintre non identifié mais très talentueux puisqu'il fallait une certaine maitrise pour s'attaquer à la réalisation d'un tel tableau de si grande taille, encadré par un beau cadre en bois sculpté et doré, italien également. Pour comprendre l'origine de ce tableau il faut remonter au début du XVIIème siècle; en effet, une poignée d’artistes, d’Utrecht aux Pays Bas, arrivèrent à Rome appelés par des commanditaires, très impressionnés par le Caravagisme. Parmi eux se trouvait Gerrit van Honthorst qui restera dans l’histoire. L’adoration des bergers, aujourd’hui conservé au musée des Offices à Florence, est très emblématique d’un style qui joue sur les effets spéciaux des scènes de nuit. Cette œuvre fut réalisée en 1620 à Florence. La beauté de la composition ainsi que la délicatesse des regards et des gestes sont d’un effet très heureux, notamment celui de Marie qui soulève le drap pour montrer son fils aux Bergers). C'est ainsi qu'au XIXème siècle, en Italie, on tenta de reproduire cette œuvre pour satisfaire une demande de clients passionnés. Notre tableau est une réussite, il reproduit superbement les effets de lumière dans la nuit, aidé de surcroit par un cadre ajouré et plein de volupté qui place au premier plan la scène peinte. Ce tableau provient d'une belle demeure Normande. Une étiquette, probablement d'exposition ( N 20566 ) au cours du XXème siècle, est collée au dos sur le châssis. Les dimensions de la toile sont 140cm de hauteur et 84cm de large.
