Scott Davis was born in Washington D.C. in 1944. He was raised in Kansas and joined the Navy at 18. After service in Vietnam he attended college in San Bernardino, California where his focus was Philosophy and Art. At first he was drawn to ceramics but found that painting suited his temperament much better.
He went to the University of California at Davis for graduate work, and while there was invited to participate in the Whitney Museum Studio Program in NYC. He found the city much to his liking and moved there in 1974 where he lived and worked until 1993 at which time he moved to Maine where has resided since then.
When asked to describe his work he usually replies that it is a combination of Haiku poetry and Shaker furniture.
