Martin Jonaš “Tomato harvest” Oil on Canvas
About the Item
“Clearly and without unnecessary details, with my paintings, I want to say that two and two make four. To depict life and work, love and death, joy and pain as they actually are…” Martin Jonaš was born in 1924 and died in 1996 in Kovacica, Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia)
His paintings have a specific philosophy of art, they show a hard work of farmers who have augmented limbs which makes him recognizable and unique, as well as acknowledged in the world of naïve art.
During his active work as an artist, he exhibited on more than 450 collective and solo exhibitions. He received many international art awards and keys to several European cities. At the Grand International drawing Exhibition in Italy in 1978, he won the Golden medal along with Salvador Dali.
By the strength of his rich imagination, Jonaš built a unique artistic style beyond the borders of naive art. The main motives on his paintings are people,- farmers with their big, working hands and heavy feet, with small grotesque looking heads settled in the scenery of native houses and fields.
This painting is a perfect example of Jonaš’ art -pure, talented and honest.
