The technique of drawing or painting a picture with thousands of dots (or points) is known as "pointillism". Finding old works of art in this difficult and extremely time consuming technique is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Also, because only very few artists mastered this difficult & time consuming technique. You can imagine our excitement when we were given the opportunity to acquire this one of a kind 'work of wildlife art' in this difficult and rare technique. This truly endearing owl monkey in its vibrant colors simply is to die for. It is cuddled up against a branch and his kind and curious eyes are staring right at you. Mind you, there is not a single line drawn here, they are all dots. We think they are pencil dots and they are on paper. Where on earth one would have to start 'drawing', we have no idea, but it must have taken the artist at least a few weeks to create this piece. We cannot find anything about the artist (H. Martens), but this piece is too good to be the work of a 'one day fly'. The typical Dutch frame dates from 1950-1960 and this work of art was either created during that period or it was made around the turn of the century (1900) and reframed in 1950-1960. This sizable, striking and timeless work of art can be enjoyed in all kinds of interiors. It will make a great talking piece and this unique, pointillism owl monkey will always bring a smile to your face.
