18th century painted leather screen
Located in Penzance, GB
18th century Anglo-Dutch painted leather screen in country house condition. This screen was most likely made in England by Dutch craftsmen who settled in England during the time of William and Mary. The screen is large and could act as a room divider or hang on a wall as a large painting. It is a real interior decorator's piece. The subject of the painting is children playing. A nurse looks after the family who are playing Blind Man's Buff and a there's a child being pulled on a baby walker...

Oil Painting on Tooled Leather of a Putti or Cherub Male Child from Spain 17th C
Located in Chicago, IL
Beautiful 17th century Tooled Leather Oil Painting mounted on board and our best hypothesis is that it is probably Spanish, with a second guess possibly being Dutch. What we do know from a local expert, is that the Putti or Cherub is close to 400-years old. The correct word I believe is actually Putto which is singular for Putti and depicts a chubby small child, typically male. The Putti painting...

George Herms Beat Movement Assemblage "Handle", Signed and Dated, 1997
Located in Cathedral City, CA
George Herms, California (b. 1937), "Handle", 1997. Found object assemblage. Mixed media including metal, wood, wire, newspaper, carpet and parchment. Signed and dated on verso. Measures 22" high x 22-1/2" wide x 6"deep. Artwork is in very good as-found condition. Detailed photos show full condition. George Herms is an American artist best known for creating assemblages out of discarded, often rusty, dirty or broken every-day objects, and juxtaposing those objects so as to infuse them with poetry, humor and meaning. He is also known for his works on paper, including works with ink, collage, drawing, paint and poetry. The prolific Herms has also created theater pieces, about which he has said, "I treat it as a Joseph Cornell box big enough that you can walk around in. It's just a continuation of my sculpture, one year at a time." Legendary curator Walter Hopps, who met Herms in 1956, "placed Herms on a dazzling continuum of assemblage artists that includes Pablo Picasso, Kurt Schwitters, Marcel Duchamp, and Joseph Cornell, as well as California luminaries Wallace Berman...

Dioscorides of Cibo and Mattioli - One-Time Only Limited-Edition Facsimile
Located in BARCELONA, ES
This is a one-time only facsimile edition limited to 987 copies of the Dioscorides of Cibo and Mattioli made during the 16th century. We created it by combining the highest technology with the mastery of the bookbinders who have handmade its binding by hand using only 100% full grain naturally tanned leather. In this remarkable codex, the artistic genius and botanist Gherardo Cibo (1512-1600) compiled a selection of medical and botanical texts from the Discorsi by the famous physician of Siena Pietro Andrea Mattioli (1501-1577), and illustrated them with more than 160 remarkable pictures of plants and landscapes that rank amongst the most beautiful of the Renaissance. Discorsi is Mattioli’s Italian translation of Dioscorides’ De Materia Medica (1st century AD) with the addition of lengthy commentaries based on his personal experience and on popular and learned medicine. Gherardo Cibo was an avid reader and admirer of this book by Mattioli. He copied entire passages in neat script, adding his own comments, anecdotes and legends and, more importantly, illustrated them with delicate and lifelike botanical images...

Richard Texier Mixed Media Painting
By Richard Texier
Located in New York, NY
Fantastic mixed media painting by Contemporary French Artist Richard Texier. A combination of watercolor, ink and collage on paper this work was is called Marges. Signed upper right corner and dated. This painting was once part of GE's corporate art collection. Colors may vary slightly. Image size is 13 inches high by 8.50 inches wide. Today Texier is regarded as one of the best living artists of his generation. He began painting at a young age and his keen interest in the history of astronomy is largely inspired by the creation of his own personnel cosmography. Known for both his paintings and sculptures he has installations throughout the world. His works are to be found in numerous important public and private collections, both in France and abroad. Many major museums around the world have exhibited his work including the National Museum of Taiwan, the National Museum of Luxembourg, the Marine Museum in Paris, the Botanical Museum of Brussels, the House of Culture Moscow and the Shanghai museum of Fine Art. He has also graced the covers of Decorating Magazines especially in France. HIs current contemporary large scale paintings retail between $28,000 and $64,000 both at auction houses like Christie's and Artcurial as well as galleries. His sculptures have even higher price points including two that reached $404,00 and $915,00. In addition he has also worked with Daum creating unique glass sculptures. Since November 6, 2015, his red bronze sculpture: Angel Bear, more than 7 meters in height which portrays a bear with wings, is placed on the Gare du Nord square in Paris. It evokes the downward spiral of polar bears due to global warming, one of his favorite themes. Japanese Painting, Framed Panel, Dahlias and Roosters, circa 1920
Located in Kyoto, JP
Tanaka Tessen (b.1890) Dahlias and Roosters Taisho period, circa 1920 Framed painting. Mineral pigments and ink on silk. Dimensions (framed): H. 159 cm x W. 97 cm x D. 2.5 cm (62.5” x 38” x 1”) An ornate and complex composition in which the artist explores almost the entire painting surface. The coloration is bold and evocative and the tinted silk ground recreates the warm golden glow of sunset. Soft, luminous brushwork details the black feathers of the roosters, which seem to cloud and blur in counterpoint to the sharper points of the eyes and beaks. Their brilliant red combs balance the composition, echoing the rich burgundy hues of the dahlias; the flowers exquisite and lifelike. Dahlias were an exotic subject favored by painters of the Taisho era. The painting belongs to the school of Kyoto Nihonga, exemplifying the principles of decorative elegance and consumate brush technique with which it was intimately associated. Painters of the time relied on the Shijo school method, basing the forms of the composition from life sketches. Sometimes they were then integrated with elements derived from Chinese bird and flower...

Practical in size, good condition, beautifully designed and great quality materials picture stand. This beautiful gallery easel is a joy to look at, even when there is no picture displayed on it. The height of this practical size stand can easily (no pun intended) be adjusted with the circular wooden handle on the front. The combination of the warm patina of this marvelous teakwood and the beautifully carved details make this Southern European easel an absolute joy to own and look at. We believe it is either French or Italian and we date it to around 1950-1970. Living in a home or working in a studio with a hand-crafted and stylish easel like this brings real beauty into your life. Especially with one of your favourite works of art displayed on it.
