This is one of the two studies submitted and accepted for the murals that were created by the artist for the U S Post office in Atlantic City, New Jersey. At the now demolished main post office, there were two murals by the Italian born American artists Peppino Mangravite which were painted and installed at this post office with funding from the New Deal/WPA Section of Fine Arts in 1939. “Youth” and “Family Recreations” together they show more than 130 figures participating in a range of seaside activities. “What Mangravite depicted was the busy, carefree image of middle-class America enjoying a vacation at the shore before the Depression.
