About the Item
Medusa Shield
An original painting by Lynn Curlee
The painting is acrylic on canvas stretched upon a circular frame. Painted in 1984.
It depicts the severed head of the Gorgon Medusa.
Instead of hair, Medusa’s head is covered by an array of writhing vipers. To look upon it would turn a man to stone.
The painting was included as an illustration in Mythological Creatures - A Classical Bestiary, a book for older children by Mr. Curlee, published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Simon & Schuster in 2007.
