Modern, Contemporary, Abstract Painting by Margit Wittig

About the Item

'Circle of Life' 2020, reflects the pull push tension as well as continuation of life using strong contrasting color. Using a spatula rather than a paint brush Wittig layers the paint creating surface tension, and puts emphasis on the relationship between the colors of red, black, cream with hints of olive green and pale orange creating a seemingly single colored background. The painting has a modern pewter frame to further accentuate the contrast. Painted in Margit Wittig's London Studio, this picture took over three years to complete. 'I never know when I will finish a painting" says the artist 'but when I've completed the last stroke, the painting tells me". She works on multiple pieces and subjects at the same time and has been known to paint over or destroy content she is not happy with - regardless of the length of time spent developing it. The painting changes as it moves from artist to viewer. Likewise this painting morphs from one subject to another as it moves from the close-up to distant point of view. The picture and frame together measure 4 x 162 x 110cm. Oil and acrylic on canvas. Margit Wittig is a London based painter as well as a sculptor and designer of functional objects such as lighting, occasional furniture and accessories. Her works are placed with collectors around the world.

    Located in London, GB
Margit Wittig has used her sculptural skills to create beautifully-crafted, well-proportioned candlesticks, which are compositions of her unique signature pearl-shaped designs. Each candlestick begins as hand-sculpted spheres which are used to create moulds in three sizes. Margit refers to these finished spheres as pearls. These highly original, eye-catching candlesticks come in three different sizes depending on the number of pearls: three, five and seven. The candlesticks are cast in resin and Jesmonite mixed with pigment at the start of the process, to ensure color consistency. Some of the candlesticks are subtly finished with hand painted gold patina to reflect the shimmer of the candle. Each one is made with a solid brass drip catcher and can be cast in a variety of colors. Working from her studio in London, as well as candlesticks, Margit creates artistic lighting...
