Antique French oil on canvas genre painting by listed artist Louis Marie Desire-Lucas (1869-1949) depicts interior British scene, en verso label reads Baltimore Museum of Art, Wyman Park, gilt surround, circa 1910. Measures - 41" H x 47" W x 4" D. Framed; 26.5" H x 33.5" W. Biography Louis-Marie Désiré-Lucas , born on the October 15 , 1869in Fort-de-France ( Martinique ), and death 29 September 1949 in Douarnenez ( Brittany ), is a French painter and lithographer . Désiré-Lucas is influenced by the painting of Paul Cézanne . He works by series of paintings painting the same subjects with different chromatic ranges according to the state of the light. In 1920, he began work on the coast and the landscapes on the Cote d'Azur , in Spain, in Italy and in Belle-Île-en-Mer . In August 1922, he stayed at Ouessant with his pupil Marie Réol and reported a series of studies. It also surveys the old lively districts of Douarnenez to study its inhabitants there. He binds with Paul Abram and both paint at the Plomarc'h . Désiré-Lucas made numerous canvases, including a series of Beechwood of the Plomarc'h . The originality of his style is affirmed and is characterized by the fiery dynamism of the key and the use of a vivid palette. It also crosses the region of cap Sizun , Comfort , where he focuses on forgiveness . Later, the peninsula of Crozon becomes its favorite place. He stayed with Marie Réol in Camaret-sur-Mer from 1928. During the inter-war period this place is the rendezvous of many artists. A few years after the death of his wife Marguerite, he married Marie Réol in 1942. The Second World War then the disease immobilize him in Kerbervet . Désiré-Lucas received a medal of honour at the Salon of 1936. He was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institut de France 2 in 1943, in the chair of Jacques-Émile Blanche (painting section), but did not pronounce His speech of reception that the 8 of May of 1946.
