'View of Old and New Lanark', Scotland, circa 1830.
Oil on canvas landscape scene in gilt frame depicting ladies admiring the view of the River Clyde to the foreground with the towns of Lanark and New Lanark in the distance.
Built during the Industrial Revolution of the late 18th Century, New Lanark was designed as a cotton mill village on the banks of the River Clyde, close to the Falls of Clyde in southern Scotland. It was transformed under the management of the influential social reformer Robert Owen.
