There is no information regarding Donnini's pictorial training, whose documented activity, exercised in his Florentine studio in via del Maglio, began in 1843, the year in which he participated in the exhibition of the Florentine Promoter Society with View of a river with a bridge. Starting from 1854 he is part of the artists of the Scuola di Staggia with the Markò, Serafino De Tivoli, Carlo Ademollo, Alessandro La Volpe, Lorenzo Gelati and Saverio Altamura and, in the same year, he was awarded by the Promoter for the Marina di Livorno paintings at the Ponte alla Sassara, Marina near Marciana with sun effect and View of a lake with sunset.
