Flower still life, yellow wild flowers in an earthenware blue vase. It is a realistic painting; it is not a stylized bunch of flowers in a vase, but an everyday bouquet. This painting was painted by Henri Michaux. Probably in his early years, maybe in his academic years. Henri Michaux became a famous painter in his later life. He became known through Tachism. That is an abstract, Expressionist style. These works by him are loved by collectors. This flower painting is therefore a tastebreaker, but nevertheless a charming and beautifully painted work of art. The painting is painted on wooden panel with a wooden silver colored frame. On the back of the panel there is also a signature with a note from Michaux. There is also a wikipedia page dedicated to Henri Michaux and many images of his artwork can be found on the internet. Below is some additional information about him from Wikipedia. Henri Michaux (24 May 1899 – 19 October 1984) was a highly idiosyncratic Belgian-born poet, writer, and painter who wrote in French. He later took French citizenship. Michaux is best known for his esoteric books written in a highly accessible style. His body of work includes poetry, travelogues, and art criticism. Michaux travelled widely, tried his hand at several careers, and experimented with psychedelic drugs, especially LSD and mescaline, which resulted in two of his most intriguing works, Miserable Miracle and The Major Ordeals of the Mind and the Countless Minor Ones. Michaux was also a highly original artist. His work is not quite figurative, but suggestive. The Museum of Modern Art in Paris and the Guggenheim Museum in New York both had major shows of his work in 1978.
