This vintage view depicts a stream with sheep grazing to the left and a Round Tower and a group of cottage ruins with cattle grazing in the distance and a stunning Cherry Blossom Tree to the left. Set in the original silvered leaf frame and painted on canvas, the artwork depicts the island of Porquerolles on the French Riviera, in the south of France; it is signed in the lower right corner by the artist, Gregoor Van Puyenbroeck and dated on the back 1932. Oil on academy board view of Scottish seaside dunes and the water beyond. Born in Scotland in 1949, John Bathgate grew up in the rolling Scottish Border country. His art education followed an apprenticeship style training with the artist and teacher Robert Fraser. By 1979 he had joined the “Lothian Group” of artists and had begun to exhibit in and around Edinburgh, along with establishing his first studio. He now lives in the north west of Skye, which looks out on Loch Bracadale, with views south to Rum and Canna, the Cuillins and west to MacLeods Tables.
