About the Item
A 19th century oil painting depicting the historic Point Bonita Lighthouse. Erected at the Marin Headlands, California in 1855. Rugged coastline, lighthouse, surf and a steamship. Third lighthouse built on the California Coast and still in operation today. Framed in a solid oak frame that is vintage, but may not be the original frame.
Point Bonita Lighthouse:
The Point Bonita Lighthouse was built in 1855 and was the third lighthouse constructed on the West Coast. It was originally located on a hill above its current location and was moved to its present position in 1877. The lighthouse was established to guide ships entering and exiting San Francisco Bay, particularly through the hazardous waters of the Golden Gate.
