About the Item
A Striking Large Portrait of a French Nobelman oil on canvas, late 17th/early 18th century.
The subject dressed in a velvet gown and white neck tie and wearing a flamboyant long black wig which was fashionable in the period.
Crackling overall and ancient repairs to the reverse. Small areas of cracked paint and small patches of old overpainting. Yellowing, discolouration and cracking to the varnish overall.
In its original period gold leaf frame. The frame has some shrinkage and a few small losses of gilding, but otherwise in good condition.
This painting and frame are in original unrestored condition and would benefit from cleaning.
