Raymond Milton Schell (1936-2014) - "Softly Falls the Evening" - Canadian school fine art landscape acrylic painting on linen canvas mounted to Birch ply - exacting detail throughout - signed and dated lower left (the date indicated on the back is 1980 - '44 is likely an example of Mr. Schell's sense of humor indicating that he had been painting since his youth) - titled, signed and numbered on the back - contained in the original gallery / exhibition giltwood frame, linen liner and fillet (likely chosen by the artist) - Canada - circa 1980.
Excellent / mint pre-owned / vintage condition - no loss - no damage - no restoration - minor scuffs to the original giltwood frame - minimal signs of age and use.
Painting Size / Dimensions - small - 10" (25.4 cm.) wide x 8" (20.3 cm.) high.
Frame Size / Dimensions - small - 17 1/2 inches (44.5 cm) wide x 15 1/2 inches (39.4 cm) high x 1 1/2" (3.8 cm) deep.
Ray Schell was a self taught artist keen on capturing the mood and landscapes of Southwestern Ontario. Born in Sarnia, he set up his studio in Port Lambton on the St. Clair River. Known for his quick wit, sense of humor and patience - all of these qualities evident in his paintings as well.
