A beautiful example by well-known artist Lowell Nesbitt featuring dramatic pale Irises on a dark grey ground. Image size: 22" H x 34" W. Simply framed. In mint condition. Signed, titled and dated on the Verso. Lowell Nesbitt (1933-1993), was a graduate of the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia and also attended the Royal College of Art in London. In 1964, the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington gave him one of his first museum exhibitions. Mr. Nesbitt was frequently grouped with the Photo Realists. Mr. He was best known for gargantuan images or irises, roses, lilies and other flowers, which he often depicted in close up so that their petals seemed to fill the canvas. The title is seen on the verso on the label: "Escape" Artist John Burton (b. 1966) is a graduate of Arizona State University and the Academy of Art in San Francisco. The artist won the top award at the 2003 Oil Painters of America show and competition in Taos, New Mexico and an award of excellence at the 2004 show. Burton was born in Salt Lake City, Utah but moved to Los Altos, California at the age of two. Burton always wanted to be an artist and when he was in fifth grade he broke his back and spent his recovery drawing and sketching. He attended Arizona State University but, feeling the art program was lacking he earned a degree in business and marketing. He went on to work as a graphic artist for six years after graduation. It wasn't until he enrolled in San Francisco's Academy of Art that he renewed his passion for painting. Forced to leave Russia in 1912, they immigrated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn.
