About the Item
An impressively large and attractive work by Australian artist Ronald Millar. A study in virtuoso tonal painting with wonderfully warm colours setting a mood, evocative of summer heat.
This intriguing still life depicts a rambling interior with a chair facing the viewer invitingly. The whole interior suffused with warm summer tones, the deep shade of the house providing a nevertheless warm temperature to the work. Though in deep shade, we can feel the warmth of the summer. In the middle distance to the right is an open window, curtain hanging loosely in the still air, while beyond lies a garden and blue sky shimmering with heat.
Signed, 'Ronald Millar', lower right. Titled, inscribed on stretcher verso: 'INTERIOR, Ronald Millar'. The work is undated but comparison to similar works of Millar's show it is about 1978.
Directly from a private collection. This is the first appearance of this work on the market since original purchase from the artist.
