Still life with tablecloth, two pitchers and a plate with apples

About the Item

The large painting depicts a table covered with a large draped mauve tablecloth, a large ceramic pitcher with decorations on a gray background, a smaller pitcher decorated with floral and plant motifs on a light background, and a plate containing three green-yellow apples. We can consider it a work of beautiful decoration, traceable to the second half of the 19th century, in eclectic taste (looking back to the past but made in the 19th century). In the lower left corner can be read the author's signature "Bauer G. H.," a 19th-century European artist who worked in Central Europe. He was known for his beautifully crafted paintings, of which this is an example. The authenticity of the work is guaranteed. The painting has an embossed gilt frame with acanthus leaf decorations at the corners, a motif taken up on the sides to a reduced extent.

Contemporary Still Life with Alexander The Great Bust and Orange Apple iBook
By Andrew S. Conklin
Located in Chicago, IL
Still Life painting, with origins dating back to the 16th century, often depicts simple everyday objects. Conklin sets his composition with both antiquities and modern elements to bring the Still Life genre into the contemporary. Yet when a closer look is taken, his modern elements are already obsolete by today's standards. The ancient bust of Alexander is placed next to an iBook begging to ask the question - what will stand the test of time?? The piece is framed in a simple walnut frame measuring 26 x 26 inches.
