Vibrant Abstract by George Obando, "Unity and the Americas", 1997

About the Item

A really wonderful vibrant abstract by George Obando marked on the reverse and titled "Unity and the Americas," dated 1997 and oil on linen. I cannot find out much about the artist, but it bears a KMA entry label which I believe stands for the Katonah Museum of Art and a price of $13,000.00. It is unframed. There is minor paint loss and some roughness to the edges as it is not framed from handling.

Measures 22" high x 22-1/2" wide x 6"deep. Artwork is in very good as-found condition. Detailed photos show full condition. George Herms is an American artist best known for creating assemblages out of discarded, often rusty, dirty or broken every-day objects, and juxtaposing those objects so as to infuse them with poetry, humor and meaning. He is also known for his works on paper, including works with ink, collage, drawing, paint and poetry. The prolific Herms has also created theater pieces, about which he has said, "I treat it as a Joseph Cornell box big enough that you can walk around in.
