About the Item

Willem Verbeet is a visual artist. Several works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Still Life with Pears, Grapes and Blackberries' sold at Van Ham Fine Art Auctions 'Fine Art' in 2013 Willem Verbeet (Den Bosch, 28 February 1801 - there, 10 October 1887) was a Dutch painter and draftsman. He mainly produced still lifes of flowers and fruit. Verbeets father was a house painter and glassmaker. He himself also worked in this profession and next door he attended the Royal School of Art and Applied Arts in his home town in the early 1820s. Here he was a pupil of Henricus Turken and Antoon van Bedaff. During his training he received two medals for his work. He received at least one medal for a still life of flowers. In this genre he later built his name. The preparations for the installations to be painted were often carried out according to a fixed pattern. He usually chose a marble tabletop on which he presented flowers or fruit. He painted the performances entirely from the front, so that the tabletops form parallel lines with the bottom of the canvas. He supplemented the compositions with green sheets and winding stems. Sometimes he added a motley butterfly. He also painted after still lifes of several masters whom he admired, such as Gerard van Spaendonck and Jacob van Walscapelle. He also made figures and historical performances. He worked with both watercolor and oil paint and also produced drawings. While his artistic hours were mainly a hobby for him, he also exhibited during his life, including in Amsterdam and The Hague. His work can be found in collections from private individuals and, for example, from the Rijksmuseum. Without frame H 77 x W 64, with frame H 95 x W 83.
