As a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists (SEA) and the American Academy of Equine Art, Roy is an artist of international repute. Roy began work as a professional artist at the age of 14 while studying in the evenings at Manchester College of Art. In the early 1960s he moved to London and worked as a freelance artist and illustrator. He has had many exhibitions including the Royal Academy, but the turning point of his career was in 1972 when he visited a racecourse and fell in love with the ‘sport of kings’. Within three years his talents for equestrian painting were recognized and acclaimed and he became a full-time equestrian artist. Her Majesty the Queen has a painting of Roy’s in her own collection. Original, large-scale painting of Tumacacori Mission , Arizona by William Norris Dakin (Will Dakin) dated 1952. Painted from a sketch done in 1936. Original frame. William Norris Dakin: Born in San Francisco, CA on Nov. 5, 1910. Dakin graduated from Burlingame High School and studied for three years on scholarships at the CSFA under Macky, Randolph, and Poole. During the 1930s he worked for Disney Studios and in the 1940s was a staff artist at Eimac Corporation. He died in Burlingame, CA on Dec. 16, 1992.
