About the Item

Original 1920 Swedish film poster. The film received it's first Swedish release 1920 Broken Blossoms was released in the Us in 1919 and celebrates its 100 year anniversary this year. This silent film was directed by D.W. Griffith, one of 20th century's pioneers of cinema, and one of the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The film stars Lillian Gish, who plays a young girl who has been abused by her alcoholic boxer father, and is befriended by a thoughtful Chinese immigrant with a catastrophic outcome. Very little ever surfaces on any W.D. Griffith films from this period.
