Additional Details: Advertising poster for Poulain Chocolates produced by Firmin Bouisset circa 1898. Chocolat Poulain is a French company producing chocolate since its foundation in February 1848 by Victor-Auguste Poulain, confectioner in Blois. The horse/foal is the emblem of the company. Firmin Bouisset chose here to represent the brand by a Pierrot holding a chocolate bar in his hand. Pierrot's traditional tears have been replaced with chocolate smeared all over his face. The Pierrot is known for his naivety but also and above all for being trustworthy, and that's probably what Bouisset wanted to highlight here: you can eat Chocolat Poulain with your eyes closed. Firmin Bouisset, born September 2, 1859 in Moissac and died March 19, 1925 in Paris, is a French illustrator, lithographer and poster artist. He was received at the School of Fine Arts in March 1880 in the class of Alexandre Cabanel, and exhibited two paintings the same year at the Salon. He became known especially for his advertising posters, including the small schoolboy LU biscuits, paper cigarette JOB, and the girl's chocolate Menier...
