Additional Details:
The Eastern Railways offered a train journey to Venice via Belfort, Basel, Lucerne and the St Gotthard massif.
In the foreground of the poster, a gondola and its gondolier sail on the lagoon. In the background are bragozzo, traditional flat-bottomed fishing boats. In the background, we can see the Basilica of Saint Mark, the bell tower of Saint Mark, the Doge's Palace as well as the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.
Frédéric Alexianu, known as F. Hugo d'Alesi, is a French painter and advertising graphic artist of Romanian origin who created a large number of tourist posters for French railway companies in the late 19th century. He also created posters for shipping companies and automobile manufacturers."
