James Bond 'You Only Live Twice' Original Vintage Movie Poster, Australian, 1967

About the Item

The fifth film in EON Productions' James Bond series and the last of Sean Connery's first stint starring as the suave secret agent, it was announced during filming of 'You Only Live Twice' that Connery would retire from the role, although he later returned in 1971 'Diamonds Are Forever.' With a screenplay by children's author Roald Dahl, 'You Only Live Twice' was the first Bond film to discard most of Ian Fleming's original plot, using only a few characters and locations from the 1964 novel as the basis for an entirely new story. Following the mammoth success of 1965 'Thunderball,' it was also the first truly epic Bond film - with spaceships, a volcanic lair, SPECTRE, armies of henchmen, ninjas and the threat of nuclear Armageddon. When American and Soviet spacecraft mysteriously disappear and each nation blames the other, Bond travels to Tokyo on the tail of the true perpetrators, finally coming face to face with Ernst Stavro Blofeld, the head of SPECTRE, as the criminal organization attempts to provoke a third world war between the superpowers. The film was a smash, grossing over $111 million at the box office. Legendary Bond poster artists Robert McGinnis and Frank McCarthy designed three key variants for the 'You Only Live Twice' Campaign, the style A or 'volcano style' pictured 007 in Blofeld's volcanic lair, the style B or 'Little Nellie style' saw Bond flying his armed gyrocopter, while the style C or 'bathtub style' featured the shirtless secret agent surrounded by a bevy of brunette beauties in an exotic bathhouse. This rare Australian One Sheet reproduces the more sought after 'bathtub' artwork by Robert McGinnis in stunning stone lithography. Printed in Australia by Robert Burton Pty. Ltd., Sydney. CONDITION Conservation backed on linen with no restoration. Backing has smoothed and diminished one vertical and three horizontal folds and staple holes to corners - the holes at left corners slightly torn, resulting in a small paper loss to upper left corner. Pinhole sized paper loss to upper crossfold. Original printer's ink smudges in places. Red ink transfer to upper fold line. Image and colors otherwise excellent.

James Bond 'Moonraker' Original Vintage Australian Daybill Movie Poster, 1979
Located in Devon, GB
Capitalising on the sci-fi space craze in the wake of 'Star Wars,' EON Productions opted to postpone filming 'For Your Eyes Only' in favour of loosely adapting Ian Fleming's 'Moonraker' as the eleventh instalment in the James Bond series. And so Roger Moore's fourth outing as agent 007 saw him head into outer space to prevent a plot to wipe out the world population and recreate humanity with a master race. Despite production costs more than double those of 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977), the space-age lark became the highest grossing 007 movie to date, until usurped by 'Goldeneye' in 1995. The Australian Daybill poster featured the same spectacular silvery artwork by American artist Daniel Goozee as the British and US poster campaigns, which pictured Bond in a spacesuit rather than his typical tux. Although a similar format, Australian day bills are significantly rarer than US insert posters.

James Bond 'Goldfinger' Original Vintage Film Poster, Swedish, 1967
By Gosta Aberg
Located in Devon, GB
Considered the quintessential and definitive Bond film, the third instalment in EON Productions' James Bond series set the template for many of the subsequent films, with its tongue in cheek humour, extensive use of gadgets and technology and multiple foreign locations. The first Bond blockbuster, 1964s 'Goldfinger' was also the first Bond film to utilise a standalone pre-credits sequence, the first to employ a pop star to sing the theme song and the first to win an Academy Award. The plot saw 007 uncover a plot to contaminate the United States gold reserve at Fort Knox while investigating the smuggling activities of powerful gold magnate Auric Goldfinger. This stunning poster designed by prolific Swedish...

James Bond 'Dr. No' Original Vintage Movie Poster, Yugoslavian, 1962
Located in Devon, GB
Based on Ian Fleming's novel of the same name, the 1962 release of 'Dr. No' first introduced the world to one of the most enduring characters in Western cinema and kicked off one of the most successful film franchises of all time. Suave British spy James Bond travels to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a fellow agent, where he battles a megalomaniac scientist bent on disrupting the US space programme. In the same way that the first film established many of the themes and visual aspects that came to be associated with the James Bond series, the first film posters set a template for the visual representation of Bond that has seen little deviation over the past 60 years. Based on a design by David Chasman, illustrator Mitchell Hooks...
