Original vintage poster issued by the Colonization Department of Canadian National Railways - A Home and Success in Canada - featuring a homestead with farmland and mountains in the distance below a blue sky with smaller captioned illustrations featuring a train passing grain storage houses, a herd of dairy cows grazing on a green field, a man fishing to represent the outdoor sport activities available in Canada as well as work opportunities, sheep grazing in front of trees and a farmer with his beef cattle representing a profitable industry above an image of a CNR steam locomotive on train tracks through an open plain running towards the viewer, a man in work clothing and sun hat raising his arm to the information text - A Home and Success in Canada / Why not seek a new home on the land in Canada? The Canadian National Railways' Colonization Department (1919-1963; a sub-section of the Department of Citizenship and Immigration) helped new settlers to Canada, meeting them on arrival and securing farm employment for them; the CNR was formed in 1919 and grew to create an extensive railway system that encouraged the population of uninhabited areas, increased its passenger and freight traffic and connected the country's forestry, fishing, mineral and agricultural resources.
