Joan Miró
With his wide-ranging oeuvre, comprising strikingly original paintings, prints, ceramics, sculptures, metal engravings and murals, Catalan modernist Joan Miró was a critical force in moving 20th-century art toward complete abstraction. Although often considered an early Surrealist because of his nonobjective imagery and evocation of the subconscious, he defies neat categorization.
Miró’s identity is largely rooted in the city of his birth: Barcelona. To this day, a number of his public artworks can be found there, including the 72-foot-tall statue Dona i Ocell (Woman and Bird), 1983. Female and avian forms, along with bright colors and the theme of Catalan pride, are recurring elements in his work.
The radical visual world Miró created with his expressive lines, signature symbols and biomorphic shapes influenced such American Abstract Expressionists as Jackson Pollock and Color Field painters like Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman.
Mirò continued to work and experiment until his death at the age of 90 in 1983. Five years before that, he was quoted saying, “I painted these paintings in a frenzy, with real violence so that people will know that I am alive, that I’m breathing, that I still have a few more places to go. I’m heading in new directions.”

Limited edition. PABLO PICASSO (Málaga, 1881 – Mougnis, 1973). One of the most important and influential artists of the 20th century, his art left a profound impact on the development of modern and contemporary art. He was born into the family of the painter José Luís Blasco, who influenced the young artist's introduction to art. For a few years, Picasso lived in La Coruña, Barcelona and Madrid (where he studied at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts). At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th he began to travel to Paris until, in 1904, he decided to settle in the French capital. His art is traditionally divided into several periods, although their names are still disputed by many art historians: The Blue Period, The Pink Period, the Proto-Cubist Period where the influence of African art is obvious, Cubism - which is divided into Analytical and Synthetic Cubism -, Neoclassicism, Surrealism and Expressionism. Pablo Picasso and the Gaspar family met in 1955 and from that moment the Sala Gaspar became an important center for the dissemination of Picasso's art in Spain...Category

- Joan Miró, Exhibition Poster Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Nowy Jork, FramedBy Joan MiróLocated in Warszawa, MazowieckieThe poster from the 1953 exhibition of Joan Miró's work at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Printed in Italy in 1986 by Arti Grafiche Ricordi. Poster by Joan Miró, a Catalan painter, sculptor and ceramicist. The surrealist master is one of the most important Spanish artists of the 20th century and one of the greatest artists of contemporary art. A picture is made of brushstrokes, just as a poem is made of words. - Joan Miró Miró's works are interpreted as belonging to surrealism, as an expression of a return to childhood and as sandboxes for the subconscious. The Miró style consists of vivid colors combined with simplified forms, reminiscent of drawings of a small child. Initially, Miró created in various fashionable styles, for example, Fauvist and Cubist. In 1920 he traveled to Paris several times, and a year later he settled there permanently. He met Pablo Picasso, Vasily Kandinsky and many other outstanding artists. In 1924 he joined the surrealists of André Breton's circle, but - despite the fact that he worked under their influence - he remained on the outskirts of this trend, maintaining the position of an outsider. Influenced by Surrealist poets and writers, he began to develop his own style: a map of weightless colored signs and poetic forms that evoke both the seemingly naive freshness of invention and the exuberant and baroque Catalan...Category
