About the Item

Aristolochia Clematitis, Birthwort Aristolochia clematitis, the birthwort is a twining herbaceous plant in the family Aristolochiaceae, which is native to Europe. The leaves are heart shaped and the flowers are pale yellow and tubular in form. The plant seeks light by ascending the stems of surrounding plants. Published in J. J. Plenck, Icones plantarum medicinalium, Wien 1788. Plates in the style of Jacquin. Joseph Jacob Plenck was an Austrian physician and the founder of modern dermatology. In 'Icones Plantarum Medicinalium', Plenck described the medical properties of all of the known herbal plants alongside beautiful engravings.
