18th Century Portrait Color Engraving, Original Frame, 'A Saint Giles's Beauty'

About the Item

Stipple and etching, printed in dark brown ink with hand-coloring.  Likely the original late 18th century frame and thus the print is in excellent condition. Print made by Francesco Bartolozzi after John Hodges Benwell. Oval portrait of Elizabeth Burrough, St Giles, Scotland. Half-length in profile to left, wearing white lace cap with blue satin ribbon and red shawl over low dress with white fichu, within oval. Hand-coloured etching and stipple "Published 8th September 1783 by E.M. Diemar, No. 377 Strand." is engraved on the lower portion, mostly hidden by the frame.
