18th century hand colored engraving, with wonderful details. 'View down the River Thames looking towards Westminster, with Somerset House on the right, Westminster Abbey and Bridge in mid-distance; many boats on the water, a pontoon in foreground to left. 1750' Hand colored engraving, in original ebonized frame with carved gilt wood sanded slips. Original glass. Amazing it has survived intact. Written on the back of the frame in English and French: The south east prospect of Westminster from Somerset House to Westminster Bridge, - Veüe de Westminster vers le sud est : depuis le Palais de Somerset au Pont Neuf Bowles, Thomas, -1767, print maker, artist Bowles, John, 1701-1779, publisher. Published according to act of Parliament, June 1, 1750. London Printed for John Bowles at the Black Horse in Cornhill. Provenance: Collection of Ralph E. Carpenter.
