About the Item

Description: Antique print, titled: 'Lussa dei sumpto violantur ab arbore pomo, Efficit hoc tacitis vipera saeua dolis.' - This original antique print shows a scene from Genesis in the Old Testament; Adam and Eve eat the apple from the tree of good and evil. This rare antique print orginates from: 'Theatrum Biblicum Hoc est historiae Sacrae -veteris et novi testamenti tabulis aeneis expressae", published by Nicolaum Johannis Piscatorum ( N.J. Visscher), 1674. Artists and Engravers: Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Nicolaes Visscher'. Nicolaes Visscher I (25 January 1618, Amsterdam – buried 11 September 1679, Amsterdam) was a Dutch engraver, cartographer and publisher. He was the son of Claes Janszoon Visscher. His son, Nicolaes Visscher II (1649–1702), also worked with him and continued the family tradition of mapmaking after his death. Visscher died in Amsterdam in 1679 and was buried in the Nieuwezijds Kapel on 11 September of that year, though a death year of 1709 is maintained by some sources. Condition: Good, given age. Some minor crinkles and creases. A few tiny spots mainly outside the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Date: 1674.
