Untitled print of a barefoot wandering dervish. Dervish or darwish in Islam can refer broadly to members of a Sufi fraternity (tariqah), or more narrowly to a religious mendicant, who chose or accepted material poverty. This print originates from 'Nauwkeurige Beschrijving van gansch Syrie, en Palenstyn of Heilige Lant' by O. Dapper. Artists and Engravers: Olfert Dapper (c. 1635 - 1689) was a Dutch physician and writer. He wrote books about history and geography, although he never travelled outside Holland.
