About the Item

This most unique piece of artwork is an incredible example of what could be done using celluloid. I have bought and sold some smaller pieces of antique advertising where celluloid was the medium, but nothing so deeply embossed, colorful, nor nothing with such a fascinating and exciting subject matter. The first question I asked myself is who would have wanted for such a piece of artwork, and all I could conclude was this must have been in some commercial establishment such as a movie theatre. It's just too grand to be made for the general public to purchase. This was made to attract attention, and that it does. The tamer is on high alert while contending with the fierce and frightening panther. The surroundings where these 2 figures are engaged appears to be something that very much resembles the inside of a palace. Beautiful and colorful flooring help out greatly in the scene. The celluloid is so very deeply embossed and free of the kind of damage one sees on something so 3 dimensional as this. It comes in the original gold frame, and unfortunately I only can go back to last owner to find out it's provenance, and he is a picker who bought it at some market on the East Coast. I know, it's too bad, but then one can put their own spin on its history. When pointing out the materials, 1st dibs offers no heading of celluloid, and I cannot type it in. It's their choices, and so for materials I can only use the wood frame, and then I feel I must just use their option choice which is "other". It is celluloid, that I know.
