Unsigned from an edition of unknown. Published by Sidney Janis Gallery, New York 1964. Looks fantastic framed as a set. Josef Albers is best known for his seminal “Homage to the Square” series of the 1950s and '60s, which focused on the simplification of form and the interplay of shape and color. “Abstraction is real, probably more real than nature,” he once said. “I prefer to see with closed eyes.” His abstract canvases employed rigid geometric compositions in order to emphasize the optical effects set off by his chosen color palettes. Albers was highly influential as a teacher, first at the Bauhaus in Germany alongside Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee, and later with posts at Black Mountain College, Yale, and Harvard; he taught courses in design and color theory, and counted among his students such iconic artists as Eva Hesse, Cy Twombly, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and Robert Rauschenberg. He is often cited among the progenitors of Minimalist, Conceptual, and Op art. In 1950, at the age of 62, Albers began his signature series, the Homage to the Square. Over the next 26 years, until his death in 1976, he produced hundreds of variations on the basic compositional scheme of three or four squares set inside each other, with the squares slightly gravitating towards the bottom edge. Jane's Addiction at The World Halloween 1988
By The Ramones
Located in Brooklyn, NY
Jane's Addiction at The World Halloween weekend 1988: Rare vintage original announcement flyer produced on the occasion of a historic 1988 Halloween weekend concert featuring Jane's Addiction; The World 254 East 2nd street New York, New York. Concert flyer: 9.5 x 6.5 inches Very good overall vintage condition. About: Jane's Addiction: Jane's Addiction is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1985. The band consists of vocalist Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Chris Chaney. The band has been credited for inspiring the alternative rock movement of the 1990s. They have released four studio albums, including their breakthrough album Nothing's Shocking in 1988 and Ritual de lo Habitual in 1990. The band was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. Founder and singer Perry Farrell found bassist Eric Avery, who then brought on drummer Stephen Perkins and finally guitarist Dave Navarro, after auditioning many players. Jane’s Addiction became a sensation on the Los Angeles club scene and a staple on the Sunset Strip. The band’s original line-up featured Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Eric Avery (bass) and Stephen Perkins (drums). Jane’s Addiction was one of the first bands to emerge from the early 1990s alternative rock movement to gain mainstream media attention and commercial success in the United States. They recorded Nothing’s Shocking in 1988 (so they are celebrating 25-years in 2013!) and Ritual De Lo Habitual in 1990, both on Warner Brothers Records. Jane’s Addiction broke up in 1991 and their farewell tour coincided with Farrell founding the first Lollapalooza festival, an alternative rock showcase and lifestyle festival that is still to this day one of the most influential music festivals in the world. As a result, Jane’s Addiction became icons of what is dubbed the “Alternative Nation.” In 1997 Jane’s Addiction united briefly with Red Hot Chili Pepper’s Flea filling in on bass. Then in 2001 the band reconnected with Chris Chaney on bass and released the album Strays, produced by legendary producer Bob Ezrin. “Superhero” from this album became the theme song for HBO’s hit show Entourage. Farrell, Navarro, Perkins and Chaney returned in to release their fourth studio album, The Great Escape Artist, and toured the world. Jane’s Addiction is regarded as one of the most influential acts in alternative music. Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine...

Burt Barr: The Long Dissolve Limited Edition Print
By Phaidon
Located in New York, NY
PHOTOGRAPH Print made with archival pigments on fine art rag paper with glossy finish 12.00 x 17.00 in 30.5 x 43.2 cm Edition of 250This work comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and an artist signed label on verso. "I shot the video in 2000, in my home in SoHo. I knew prior to shooting what I wanted to do and I envisioned the piece exactly as it turned out. First, I experimented with a metal cookie tin placed on a hot stove. It didn't work because the ice cube melted too quickly. I tried a hairdryer but as the cube melted, the hair-blower blew the remaining cube away. Thus, I let the cube melt on it's own accord in real time. It took about three hours to fully dissolve into a puddle of water. I used a glass plate on Glassene paper: all that transparency made the black lines of the plate look line a charcoal line drawing. The title is important because it precisely explains the work: The Long Dissolve is exactly of an ice cube dissolving." —Burt Barr Claiming that "black and white are the only two colors I'll ever need," Burt Barr is a believer in the single take and the static shot. Meant to be projected directly onto a wall and looped for continual viewing, his films equate more to hanging drawings or black and white photographs than they are moving pictures...
